When in doubt bandsaw it out

Today the team has managed to solve the problem of how one earth we cutting the wheel arches out… this has been a problem we have thought about ever since we started to remove the excess material during the shaping process of our sandpit. The idea suggested by Callum of using the band-saw was the best option considering the time and equipment we currently had in the workshop during our lunch hour. To ensure we did this correctly we had 3 people hold the wheel panels on the band-saw bench with 2 people supporting and the 3rd as the driver of where the blade is cutting. No pressure to the driver we all said while watching their every move. this was a fast way to get the shaping of the wheel arches cut out to perfection.

The image below is the massive 3 man job that had to be done to cut out the wheel arches. This had to be cut as perfect as humanly possible so that there is a even radius for the wheel that goes inside of the panel. The team now just as the sand up the insides of the wheel arches as week as everything else so that the cutting lines that where created by the band saw are removed and and defects are attended to. while cutting out the final wheel arch we had a slight problem of the blade running off the wheels of the band-saw, we figured out that someone most likely a junior played with the tilt adjustment of the wheel on top as as the wheel rotates then the blade slowly moves off the blade until it comes off like shown in the last image. despite of this technical glitch the blade and our work were unscathed. #DAT rpm and rotational inertia though.

Bandsawing

all safety precautions were followed to ensure the safety of not only the team but others in the workshop. one of our teachers opened the bandsaw for a photo after ensuring that the blade was completely off the wheel and that the wheel was indeed free spinning. this includes all safety equipment as well.
