So today the team have manage to solve one of the biggest problems so far. A question we were asking each other “How are we going to cut out the wheel arches?” Callum suggests ” Use the band saw…” firstly we had to cut up the sides into 3 pieces the reason being that it would be too heavy to cut with the band saw and we needed to cut the door section for a ramp for the kids to climb up to get into the sandpit. This made the process of cutting the wheel arches out a lot easier, so it hasn’t been a disadvantage to get the sides cut. We cut the body using the real ratios from the blue prints of the car. So we will go in tomorrow faced with a new challenge.

Sadly the team were all getting our hands covered in saw dust at this moment and had no way of taking photos of how we cut our project. The method we used was using a bench or “rip saw” with a horizontal guide to ensure a straight cut every time (We also purposely made a straight edge to do this). To ensure that the project did not have a chance to move while being cut we actually used 4 F clamps and clamped the project to the sliding bench so that there is no uncertainty about the cut line. Once the whole team agreed the cutting line is accurate and true we aligned to the blade and we started cutting up our beloved car side.

Next period wheel arch.

Safety equipment was used when we did actual work.
